Open science

Open Science aims to promote the accessibility, visibility and impact of research results. It is based on fostering and facilitating the free and freely accessible publication of research results, promoting the re-exploitation of research data and permanent access to scientific production.

The UdG, on the one hand, has an active and committed stance regarding open access, where the promotion of open science is reflected in actions included in the University’s Strategic Plan, the creation of the Open Science Committee , and through the signing of declarations such as the Berlin Declaration (2010), the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (2022), the Barcelona Declaration (2024), and the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment – DORA (2025).

On the other hand, the Governing Council of UdG, in its ordinary session of April 12, 2021, approved the Open Access Mandate of the University of Girona , which includes recommendations addressed to teaching and research staff to promote the dissemination of scientific and academic output in open access. In its ordinary session of February 16, 2022, it approved the Research Data Management Policy of the University of Girona , highlighting the importance of good practices in managing and storing research data, using infrastructures that comply with access security protocols. And in its ordinary session of May 20, 2024, it approved the Institutional Policy on Open Educational Resources (OER) aimed at improving the student experience by increasing learning opportunities and enhancing teaching practices through the availability of more resources.

To learn more, Catalan universities offer the university community an open science course designed to train participants in good practices in open science and research data management in accordance with the FAIR principles.
